A comprehensive new web site is currently under construction and will be up shorlty.

The Quartet of Peace is the name given to four handcrafted string instruments, each dedicated to one of South Africa's four Nobel Peace Laureates – Albert Luthuli, Desmond Tutu, FW de Klerk and Nelson Mandela.

The instruments were made in Cape Town by master craftsman Brian_Lisus. The Quartet of Peace project has two purposes. The first is to promote in South Africa the ideals of peace, reconciliation, mutual tolerance, freedom and hope, encapsulated in the lives of the four dedicatees.

The vehicles for achieving this vision will include musical performance, directly or indirectly involving the Quartet instruments, locally and internationally.

The second purpose is the provision of scholarships or other forms of financial assistance to individuals from disadvantaged communities, who have exceptional talent in such fields as musical performance and instrument-making and repair. The institutional arrangements for managing the initiative are currently under investigation. This may be by means of a stand-alone Trust or as part of an existing project with compatible objectives and activities.
